1. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Similar technologies can include local storage, session storage, SDK-based identifiers, and browser storage used for authentication, preferences, and security.

2. Why We Use Them

• To keep you signed in and maintain secure account sessions.
• To remember basic preferences and product settings.
• To support safety, abuse prevention, and technical integrity.
• To measure site usage and performance in a privacy-aware way.
• To provide features you explicitly request, such as language, theme, cursor, and saved-tutor preferences.

3. Categories of Technologies We Use

• Strictly necessary technologies: required for authentication, security, session continuity, and essential platform functions.
• User-requested preference storage: used when you choose a language, theme, cursor mode, saved tutor, or another persistent preference.
• Measurement and analytics technologies: Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, activated only after analytics consent.

4. Current YourFavTeacher Use

Current browser storage includes the Supabase authentication session for signed-in users; yft_cookie_consent for 180 days; the language preference cookie for up to one year; local language, theme, background and cursor preferences until removed; saved-tutor preferences until removed; and session-only markers used to avoid repeating entry or popularity events within the same browser session.

Current optional analytics are Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. They do not mount before analytics consent. We do not currently activate a marketing-cookie category. If that changes, we will update this notice and request a separate, specific choice before activation.

5. Consent and Control

Where required by law, we ask for your choice before activating non-essential cookie categories. You can update your choice later through the cookie settings control available on the site.

Your browser may also allow you to block, clear, or restrict cookies and storage. If you do this, parts of the platform may not function correctly.

6. Authentication and Security Storage

Some cookies or storage mechanisms are necessary to sign you in, maintain your authenticated session, protect account security, and prevent misuse. These technologies are considered essential to core platform operation.

7. Analytics and Performance

With your analytics consent, Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights help us measure page usage and performance. Query strings are removed and dashboard, messages, admin, and authentication callback paths are excluded before events are sent.

8. Third-Party Technologies

Supabase provides authentication and session infrastructure. Vercel provides hosting and, only with analytics consent, Analytics and Speed Insights. Cloudflare Turnstile may process technical signals needed to protect forms and authentication from automated abuse.

9. Retention

The consent cookie lasts 180 days. Session-storage markers normally end when the browser session ends. Authentication storage follows the account session lifecycle. User-requested preferences remain until you change them, clear browser storage, or the application replaces them.

10. How to Manage or Delete Cookies

• Use the cookie settings control on the site to manage platform cookie choices where available.
• Use your browser settings to clear or block cookies and browser storage.
• Be aware that blocking essential technologies may break sign-in or core site functionality.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when platform technologies, legal requirements, or product features change. We may also update the cookie settings interface where appropriate.
